Special Olympics Polar Plunge in March
Posted Date: 02/12/26 (01:47 PM)
On Tuesday, March 3rd, students, staff, and faculty at Augusta High School will brave icy waters for the Cool School Plunge, a unique Unified Polar Plunge event. This event celebrates inclusion and raises funds to support Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) athletes.
The Cool School Plunge is different from the traditional Polar Plunge. While it does raise funds and awareness, it is also a Unified event and closed to members of Augusta High School. It fosters a powerful partnership between individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Organized with the support of the school’s Unified program, the event will feature participation by students, staff, and faculty that jump into the SOKS Mobile Plunge Trailer’s freezing cold water in the middle of winter all rallying together to support SOKS.
“It really is more than just a fundraiser for our students,” said Caitlin Pierce, Schools Program Manager at Special Olympics Kansas. “We’re bringing students together to support their classmates, friends, teammates with intellectual disabilities.”
This year’s event has a fun theme. They are calling it the coolest pool party of the year. Students, staff, and faculty will be dressed in floaties, sunglasses, googles, and ready to party.
