Garfield Elementary Named Blue Ribbon School

Garfield Elementary has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, one of only four schools in Kansas to receive this honor! On Monday, Sept. 23, U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona announced that 356 schools across the country were being recognized this year in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes public and private schools in two categories:

  1. Exemplary High Performing Schools: Schools that are among the top performers in their state based on state assessments or nationally normed tests.
  2. Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools: Schools that have made significant progress in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.

Garfield Elementary was also honored as a Blue Ribbon School in 2006. Congratulations to the students and staff on this outstanding achievement!

Being nominated as a National Blue Ribbon school is such an honor and a great recognition of all of the hard work our students, staff and families put in to make Garfield Elementary a great place to learn. We’re proud to be one of the few to represent the state of Kansas this year.”

- Mr. Trever Lockamy, Garfield Elementary School Principal

“As a community, we are incredibly proud that Garfield Elementary has, again, been selected as a National Blue Ribbon School. This prestigious recognition highlights the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our students, staff, and families. It’s a testament to the longtime commitment to excellence held at Garfield Elementary. As a community, we are honored by this recognition, and we are so excited for the Garfield family! Go Grizzlies!”
